The larger decks and singleton cards increase variety from game-to game, and the colour identity and commander availability increase deck diversity. That said, if variety is the “spice of life” then each player has a different tolerance for that spice. Some people prefer the consistency of eternal formats, others like rotating formats. Weekly draft throwbacks are popular online, and some players build a deck every week.

Just as Commander is one format of MTG, variants of Commander can mix it up for those who crave a deckbuilding challenge or a new game flow. Tiny Leaders, Brawl, and several other lightweight versions of commander have cropped up over the years because, even if a format can be “solved”, doing so is a fun exercise.

In the past, I’ve created a number of variations on that theme Commander, and starting February 1st, I’ll be publishing a new twist, idea, or hair-brained scheme each month for players to experiment with.

Fair warning… many of these ideas will be unpolished, and some of them may be downright bad!

Gavin

PS: I’m going to leave comments open so you can give feedback or let me know what you think, but I don’t have much patience for bad behavior. 🙂

Current Decks

Nicol Bolas
Kaervek the Merciless
Dromar, the Banisher
Nath of the Gilt Leaf
Chorus of the Conclave
Sliver Queen
Sliver Legion
Sliver Overlord
Sliver Hivelord
The Ur-Dragon
Sharum, the Hedgemon
Rhys, the Redeemed

Kethis, the Hidden Hand
Savra, Queen of the Golgari
Tymaret, Murder King
Mayel of the Anima
Archangel Avacyn
The Academy
Szadek, Lord of Secrets
The Grand Calcutron

Nonsocial
Inalia, Archmage Ritualist
Oona
Prossh
Thrasios/Tymna
Porphorous

Brawl:
Sorin, Vengeful Bloodlord
Ugin, the Ineffable
Chandra, Fire Artisan
Judith, the Scourge Diva
Domri, Chaos Bringer
Zegana, Utopia Speaker
Nicol Bolas, Dragon God

Everyone has their degeneracies, and mine is finding homes for underplayed cards.
